It’s time again to start on our holiday sewing for this year. Today I will show you a new pattern for a camera case, and talk about some additional patterns with downloads for even more quick gifts. These are all free patterns, and will remain on the blog for you to enjoy. Plus, I am joining a fun blog hop for you to see all kinds of great ideas for your Christmas In July sewing and quilting. There are giveaways too, so lots to do today!
So, we’ll begin with the larger case. I begin by carefully measuring the size of the larger camera in width and height directions, taking care to include the amount needed for the depth. My camera measured out at about 7×8 (going halfway down the sides in both directions to allow for depth). I made a couple of cases, and found that cutting the fabric 10 x 18 inches works well, allowing a bit of ease to get the camera in and out of the bag.
For this size camera, cut fabric for outside, lining and batting to 10 x 18 inches. Go a bit larger if your camera is bigger than mine.
Layer right sides together of the outside fabric and the lining fabric, and add batting layer. Sew all three layers together, leaving an opening for turning.
Clip corners, turn and press.
Topstitch around the entire sandwich, closing the opening.
Place velcro on each short end, placing one on the outside and one on the lining. I like to put the loop side on the inside.
Topstitch the velcro in place.
Turn up the bottom with the velcro on the outside 6 inches.
Stitch the sides.
Turn the bag inside out, and box the corners one inch.
Turn right side out. The camera sits inside nicely…
and the handle will come out the sides at the top for carrying.
For my little camera, the pattern is essentially the same , just smaller and the corners don’t need to be boxed. I measure the camera in the same way, allowing for the depth. The instructions will fit a camera about this size, make adjustments if yours is a bit bigger.
Cut fabrics and batting to 10 x 6-inches. Layer right sides together of the outside fabric and the lining fabric, and add batting layer. Sew all three layers together, leaving an opening for turning. Clip corners, turn and press. Topstitch around the entire sandwich, closing the opening.
Place velcro as shown in the larger case and topstitch. Turn up about 1/3 of the sandwich from the bottom, place your camera on top to check the fit and adjust as needed. Sew the sides.
All done, again the camera fits nicely…
with the handle extending from the case for carrying.

Cute idea for a matching case set! I’m currently getting ready to cut out our Christmas quilt for this year. I’ve used patterns by Doug Leko for the pas 2 years. I also have a Christmas quilt and a patriotic quilt planned for my husband’s aunts.
I’m working on 2 quilts for family members for Christmas.
With the great tutorials and the PDFs of each, everyone is already a winner. I love Christmas fabric. Years ago a friend of mine told me that she wanted a Christmas quilt, so I set to work buying Christmas fabrics in small amounts to make what I thought she might like – a scrappy Christmas quilt. About six weeks later, she told me she had taken a 80 something year old friend shopping to buy the fabrics for the quilt. The friend wanted to make the quilt for her. I put the quilt in a box and stopped on it as I was in poor health and really didn’t feel like working on the quilt. Thanks to you I just remembered it and I need to get it out and work on it. My son has a wonderful girlfriend who loves Christmas. She has two daughters and has taken in not only my son but also his two children. She has stood by him while he has gotten his 13 year old son whose mother has become a drug addict and my son will get permanent custody of him next week – all the papers are signed and the judge just has to sign off. You know she is an angel to go through all the drama that goes with dealing with an addict and a child who is uprooted from his mother and doesn’t know the real reason. The quilt would be perfect for her. The fat quarters would be a fresh start back on the quilt. Thank you for participating in the hop and the great inspiration.
Have been busy here so far this summer with visitors, quilt show, and charity quilts, so now I’m working on UFOs. Don’t know why I have so many! LOL

I love the fabric choice in your models! I am working on a couple of things for myself currently and have my fabrics picked and sorted out for one Christmas quilt – masculine quilt for my son. This blog hop has already provided me with so many ideas for gifting at this Christmas and I must get busy busy! (btw… I love Christmas novels!) — and like so many of our friends—I too must confess. I have lots of WIPs to complete!

I quilt most days in most years, but this has been a trying year for that. Hoping the last half gets better and I can sew for Christmas before Christmas gets here. LOL
I haven’t used a camera in years. All photos are on my phone or Facebook LOL. I really miss the tangible picture and making albums. Don’t know who will want the several boxes of albums and pictures when we’re gone…..
As for sewing, I like BOMs and Sew Alongs, so I’m “armpit deep” in several of those projects plus working on a leader/ender Project, Quilt of Valor for a friend, Christmas quilts for our kids, and cutting 3 quilts for an upcoming quilt cruise next month. Yes, I’m retired and have a wonderful husband.
I love your camera case idea. As for Christmas, after I finish the quilts for our church camp benefit auction I want to make each of the younger grands a Christmas quilt this year, and if time permits perhaps some new holiday placemats for our table.

I would use these to make little bags that my friend uses to give toiletry essentials to homeless kids in our high school.

Diligently working on finishing wips, with 20 of 60+ on my list from before the first of 2018 now completed. Loads more projects started this year, too, including quite a few that have been finished.
Not too much Christmas sewing planned here, except for some reusable gift bags, which I will make from Christmas yardage I bought on sale in Jan!

As always, I’ve probably bitten off more than I can chew regarding Christmas gift projects, but right now, I have 3 quilts (one is the Quilt along for the blog hop) and several small sewn projects (microwave bowl cozies, cosmetic bags, etc.) on my agenda. We’ll see if my ambition gets the better of me!
I just bought two of Elizabeth Hartman’s designs; one with swans for my niece and one with dachshunds for my nephew. I’m looking forward to putting them together. I like your cases; they are practical, do the job, and are very attractive. Thanks for the how to.

So clever to make camera bags, especially for those small ones to keep safely in a hand bag! Sun glasses cases are useful too. I’ve got plans to make a few table toppers for Christmas gifts for friends. Making personal gifts by hand is always so appreciated!
I am currently working on 2 quilts. One is just because I have lots of fabric to use, and I have a hand injury, and can only machine sew! I miss my knitting!
The other is a quilt for my son’s partner. She is a lovely young lady, who enjoys home made things, but doesn’t do crafts herself.
I haven’t started Christmas yet still sewing Graduation quilts.
What a handy tutorial. I bought a red case for my red camera and they both are sitting on my shelf. I have 5 niece quilts that I want to complete by Christmas and along the way finish up some other quilts on my to finish list.
I’m planing on making pot holders for Christmas this year. I’m trying to get another project finished so I can get them started.

There’s a Christmas QAL starting up next Wednesday that I plan on participating in and I have a book with a tree skirt with Polar Bear FPP in it I want to make. Right now I’m just finishing up a couple QAL’s before the next ones get going!
