Pinwheel Plus Quilt

The quilt today has a dual purpose.  First, I am happy to be a part of Cheryl Brickey and Paige Alexander’s book launch for their new publication Modern Plus Sign Quilts.  This new book has sixteen patterns for all kinds of projects, all using the plus sign as part of the design.  I picked the Pinwheel Plus design to make in a small size.  I liked the way it blended traditional blocks into a more modern design.

The size in the book is larger, but I made a smaller version for a special project.  I decided to use a floral print for the plus signs, a pretty green for the pinwheels, and a white background.

I thought the floral plus signs and this cute little bunny was sweet for spring on the guest bed.  I quilted it with a swirly pantograph to had more movement to the design, like the pinwheels are spinning in the wind.

I plan to send this quilt to Little Lambs in conjunction with Sarah’s Hands2Help charity quilt drive.

  1. It looks so fresh and clean with the contrast of those lovely saturated fabrics against the white background. I love your choice of the swirly quilting, it does give the impression of the pinwheels blowing in the wind.

I love the use of two different fabrics with the white background. Thank you for telling us about your donation goal. This is such a charming quilt I’m sure some child will really appreciate it.

Love your quilt using two blocks. Your colors are beautiful, especially love the floral print. Great job! Thanks for sharing!

  9. A fresh take using that pretty floral fabric for your version! You’ve given this design a softer, more feminine take that is so lovely! Wonderfully done!

  10. I’ve followed the blog posts and Instagram shots about the plus sign book. While I think the quilts are all lovely, I am not drawn to making most of them.

The only one that inspries me to plan a quilt is yours, with the alternate block pattern. It feels lighter and more relaxed…
