Giveaway Day!

Merry Christmas!  I decided to participate with Giveaway Day on Sew Mama Sew this year, and have a fun prize for you to win just for visiting and commenting, and a link for more giveaways today.  Last summer, I did an event on my blog called Christmas In July where I made a tutorial for a sewing kit or jewelry case for giving as a gift. It was just one of several tutorials during that event.

Sewing Kit | From My Carolina Home

It closes with drawstrings and there is no hand sewing!  If you would like to make one for a gift or for yourself, the full tutorial is at this link – Sewing Kit Tutorial.  Or if you want to win this one with an additional goodie, keep reading.

While you are here, please take a minute to look around and see the variety of subjects on my blog.  I have a lot of interests, and do posts on crafting, sewing, quilting, stamping, tablescapes, decorating, recipes, book reviews and lots more.  There are several events each year on my blog that have great giveaways too, like my Christmas in July event (sponsors) and Autumn Jubilee.  See a this link for a review of the Christmas in July (projects) event for lots of Christmas cheer!   Coming up in the next few days are lots more Christmas ideas and projects, and I’d like to invite new readers to follow using any of the ways on the sidebar.  One table topper I use over and over is the one shown in the picture below, a simple hexagonal shape with rings of alternating values and colors in red, green and ecru. The pattern is free on My Patterns page. While you are there, please take a look at my other patterns.

If you are in the mood for a quick quilt-along, Scrap Dance Waltz is just getting underway, with the cutting and Block A instructions up.  Block B will be next week (on Wednesday the 14th) and we will finish in January.  After that my next mystery quilt will begin.  The mystery quilts are always scrappy, so you can use up your leftovers from other projects.  Scrap Dance Original and Scrap Dance Tango are previous mystery quilts.

For my giveaway today, I’ll send one lucky winner this sewing kit, with a spool of Aurifil thread!  To enter, leave a comment saying what you are sewing this season.  International entries are welcome, yes, I will ship to anywhere in the world.  Blog followers can have a second entry, just leave a second comment stating how you follow – email, Bloglovin, Feedly, Feedspot, or blog reader/blog roll.  Most of the time I respond by email to every comment except on giveaway posts as there are usually too many to do that.

Giveaway sewing kit

The giveaway will remain open for comments through Sunday, December 11.  The winner will be drawn on Monday and notified by email.  I’ll update this post with the drawing on Monday.

Update – The random number generator picked #2-8 and the winner is Barb N who commented “I’ve just finished two Christmas Tree Skirts, one for myself, and one for my daughter who will not be able to come home for Christmas this year. First time ever! Going to miss her dearly, so maybe this tree skirt will give her a little cheer from home.”  Congratulations, Barb!  And thank you to everyone that entered.

Linking up with Sew Mama Sew’s Giveaway Day!  Visit the link for lots of giveaways today!  The giveaways all are open until Sunday, so check back for more linkups through the week.   The links are available to see more blogs with giveaways, however the giveaway deadline has now passed.

right now i just finished the quilt from shabby fabrics, blooming butterflies, my two year old granddaughter looks at it and “wows” every time she comes in the house, [yes, it’s for her!], and as per your recent email, i just started a small nine block, sampler, simple, small and alot of fun. [not listed all the wip’s that are always on the go!] i’m also crocheting several babyblankets, with cables [addicted to cables!], and one HUGE afghan for one of my married children.
    thanks for the giveaway!

  2. Good Morning Carole! I see you have risen up before the sunrise just like I have this morning (it was just 3:30 am when I woke up) it is now 4:28 am. Amazing how many emails have been sent at this time of morning! Although, I for the most part am pretty happy discovering them at around 7 am. LOL. I am definitely feeling better, now to get completely over the head cold and back to normal hours.

I definitely remember Deanna and I starting to make this bag from your tutorial. I do not know what happened, but it was not completed for some reason….I must ask her today. That way, we can finish ours up and have Christmas presents for one of our girls and still enter to win the one you are giving away. Double Bonus!! Wait….Triple Bonus because you have added the Thread! Yippeee……I am always needed thread it seems. I have to quilt some quilts today and finish a few small projects, but then will be back to getting more of Block B sewn together! Have a fantastic creative day! Plus, a great big hug for the chance at the give away prize and for letting us know about the other give aways going on!

I am making an angel lap quilt from Christmas fabrics. Check out Holiday Flourish to get an idea. They have 2 panels that are really pretty.

  4. I follow you by email! You should know by now how much I adore reading all of your posts, pretty hard to pick a favorite…yet, your tablescapes are so much fun seeing the varieties and reading the revealing histories of the special pieces! Of course, the tutorials are always fun and such a great bonus; yet, then there are the SCRAP DANCE MYSTERY QUILTS that I have done each of and can not wait to finish this Christmas Quilt Along and Anxiously awaiting the New Year and the New Mystery! Your Blogs just Rock Carole!

  5. mlmcspadden

I’m sewing on Christmas gifts – have 2 more tea cozies to make (finished one) and an appliqued sweatshirt yet to finish for this year. I will make it!

  6. Liz Horgan

Right now I’m working of Christmas gifts! I’m also cutting and organizing scraps for your scrap dance waltz–I’m doing it totally scrappy. I won’t be able to keep up though, thinking about Bonnie Hunters project and trying to finish a wedding gift! So much!

  7. Elaine Nemeth

!4 Block A’s of Scrap Dance Waltz are done so far…Love the pattern and using the blue
background is interesting. Thanks for your blog…

  8. I loved the Christmas in July event…didn’t win anything but got started on my Christmas gifts. Several table toppers, placemats and other goodies.

I am making Christmas ornaments to use for our family get together for gifts when we plan games. I love all of them and have really enjoyed making them.

  11. I’m sewing a project bag (for knitting projects) and – when I find the right fabric – a comfortable dress to wear around the house. And now I’m going to go back and look at your instructions for making this nifty drawstring bag! Thank you for the great giveaway opp 🙂

  12. Cheryl Buchanan

I am working on a lap quilt (made with bird fabric) for my Mom and a Christmas Tree Skirt for my youngest son. He bought his first home in May, so this is his first Christmas in his new home. I have 2 decorative boxes full of hand made ornaments for his first tree!

  13. Celeste Delostrinos

This is my busiest sewing-for-Christmas time ever. I’m trying to finish two large quilts, a queen and a king, for my sisters-in-law. I’d really rather be working on Scrap Dance Waltz.

  14. Frederica Champagne

I love your site and the sewing bag! I am contemplating the Scrap Dance Waltz and thinking about the secondary patterns it makes. I am making a tropical quilt with Hawaiian print appliqued fish and am also making a flannel and fleece quilt with penguins!

  15. Mary C

What am I sewing? I I am working on a few wallhangings for gifts for special people in my life and a few small Christmas gifts.

  16. Very pretty, hope to start earlier next year & make something for myself! Not sewing this season-too busy with quilts! However I am making everyone in my family the non-sew quilted tree ornaments! Thank you, Susan

  17. Sam

    I follow by e-mail.
Sewing project: only a limited one of making belly bands for rescue dogs. Some little male dogs lose their manners in transition to a new home (their world has been turned upside down) so I make belly bands for them to take to their new homes.

  18. Barb K.

I am finishing the quilting on the hexagon table runner you gave the pattern for–Many Thanks!! It went together so nicely and is so pretty!

  19. I’m working on a number of Christmas Quilts & other gifts. Today I’m finishing up a quilted checker board for our 6 year old grandson who is now into board games.

  20. My little granddaughter, Chloe Jane, and I are making pajama pants for her brothers! Just finished a “buckwheat & lavender” quilted mitt for my daughter, and finished up a Minkee strip quilt for a neighbor.
    Love your little sewing bag!
    Happy Holidays,

  21. I am thrilled at the possibility of winning such a cute bag! I am currently working on some new stockings for my office. I have a new office mate as of the 1st so I thought it was about time to replace the older stockings in the decor.

  22. Ruth Coleman

I love your blog and read it all time. You are so versatile. It is always very interesting. I used one of your patterns from craftys to make a quilt earlier this year and it’s how I found your blog.

  23. Susan Stanton

I am just putting the finishing touches (binding) on a Christmas Tree table runner! I’m hoping to make two or three more to give away. Your little sewing pouch is so cute and I like the idea that that is no hand sewing.

  24. I’ve finished “sewing” for the season but now have to quilt and bind what I’ve sewn: I have a queen-size flannel quilt top for a brother-in-law whose name I drawed; placemats for one daughter; 2 Christmas Tree wallhangings for the other 2 daughters; and 3 twin quilts for the 3 grandbabies…..(hubby is getting something “bought”). Merry Christmas, Carole!

  25. Sharon Schipper

Good morning! still working on the wedding quilt, and hand sewing on the leaf table topper. I have a small project ready to start, making a tree wall hanging out of collars and cuffs from shirts that I’ve de-constructed for a lap quilt, and want to make the hexie table topper as well. Too many projects/ideas and not enough time!

  26. Terry

I just finished a quilt, bibs and burp cloths for my new grandson and I’m working on a snowman table runner for his room and a paper pieced Christmas tree. Thanks for the sweet giveaway…love your sewing kit/jewelry pouch!

  27. Betty K

I have been making mug rugs. It started with my daughter wanting another one and then suggested it would make a good gift for her youngest child. I know how the other grandchildren seem to feel left out if they didn’t get the same thing, so am making mug rugs for the three kids. At least they are small items to make , lol.

  28. I just finished 4 Christmas quilts. I had won a Christmas panel kit and I am now making this one for me. I have been to your blog and like what I have seen. Have printed off some tutorials as well as recipes. Thank you for being a part of the SMS. Happy Holidays!

  29. Oh, that is such a pretty jewelry bag. I started following you just a month ago. I tried a year ago to make one of these without much success. Your tutorial will give me better direction. And if I won a pre-made bag, that would be even better!

  30. How fun! I’m clearing my sewing room out, then will finally finish some projects that have been following me around for about a year. I have quilts to bind, to baste and to cut out! Thanks for the chance – this little bag and thread too! What a great giveaway!

  31. Susan

I just finished your quilt-Scrap Dance Tango. It is the mystery quilt for my guild this year and I always try to stay ahead of the membership. Thanks again for your permission to use your pattern. I want to get a photo outside but we’ve had lots of wet snow. I would put the quilt on the snow but it’s too muddy!
I am now working on the next quilt but only have 2 block As done. I can’t decide if I will do all one color or two. I just finished a red/ white quilt so my new one is pinks and?

  32. This is the month for Christmas so last week I made ornaments and this week cutting for a runner and ornaments. Thanks for the fun!

  38. Pat Evans

I’m sewing Scrap Dance Waltz, Bonnie Hunter’s mystery (only half the units), and trying to get a Christmas themed table topper quilted, which isn’t going so well. I loved the little pouch when I saw it last summer, but haven’t gotten to it. I want one to carry earrings and jewelry while traveling.

  39. I am making quilted placemats & hot pads. Also, tote bags out of our goat’s, wild bird’s & chicken’s feed bags. It’s a great way to re-purpose & folks love to get them. Thanks for a great blog.

I have 19 candlemats in the works right now, almost finished with those, also am making a table runner for a friend and I made a crayon caddy for my dear little grand niece and my family grab bag I got someone who crochets and I made her a crochet hook caddy. I’ve been real busy!!!

  47. Barbara Beernink

I wish I could say I’m sewing something for Christmas but I’m excited to say that I’m sewing a quilt for a wedding gift for my daughter who gets married in February 2017. That doesn’t leave me much time after the holidays!

  48. dezertsuz

What a great giveaway! I love the green in this, and who could resist an extra bonus of Aurifil Thread? Thanks for the chance to win. You’ve probably deduced I’m not sewing much lately! I’m trying to catch up with swap blocks, and one or two series quilts by the end of the month so I can start fresh in January. I am thinking I may use your current SAL pattern for a project this coming year. I have to see if there’s enough contrast in the two groups of fabric I have.

  49. Cathy Calloway

I finished my gift sewing, now I’m working on some holiday minis for myself. Time for some fun sewing!

  50. Linda "Cookie" Lawrence

I’m not sewing much this season, mostly focusing on other projects, but one of the sewing projects I have on hold right now (I get distracted by different projects lol) is a pencil skirt made of the cutest patterned fabric I got on sale at Hobby Lobby recently. It’s lilac and has a white feather pattern all over it. Love it! Hopefully I finish it soon lol

I’m mostly doing handwork this season as my sewing supplies aren’t unpacked yet. I have a gallon sized zip top bag full of fabric circles that I’m turning into yo-yos. Once I’m unpacked I have two quilt tops and two Christmas stockings that I want to finish up before I start any new projects.

  75. Thank you so much, Random Generator, for drawing my number! I received the wonderful drawstring sewing kit with Aurifil thread. I love handmade items, so this will be treasured – thank you again, and Merry Christmas!
